  • Iggy Azalea cancels Pittsburgh LGBT Pride Event Performance on June 13th Amid Homophobia Allegations

The Australian singer, Iggy Azalea, after being being accused of making homophobic statements, posted a message on twitter on Monday night. She apologized for the cancellation of her Pittsburgh performance.

The Delta Foundation faced criticism after choosing Azalea to headline the celebration of their event. Iggy admitted on social media that she made certain statements which might have offended the LGBT community.

Azalea wrote that she is a firm believer in equality and apologized for the words she used in the past. She regrets making the negative statements on the basis of which she got criticized. The 25 year old star felt deeply sorry and insisted upon the fact that she meant no harm to anybody by uttering those words.

In one of her tweets in 2010 she wrote that when guys whisper in ears, she finds it to be a homosexual gesture. Her discriminating tweets  definitely portrayed a negative image of the young rapper in front of the gay community. Bruce Kraus, the president of the Pittsburgh City Council, who also happens to be gay supported calls for a cancellation of Iggy’s performance.

Vanessa Davis a prominent member of LGBT network education also made a statement regarding this issue. She said that the board voted last week to not to march in the Pittsburgh Pride parade due to the insensitive choice of Iggy Azalea as headliner of the event.

The Delta Foundation said in a statement that they are sorry that Azalea caused a division within the LGBT community. They also added that they believe that change happens through conversation. The organization stated that a new lineup to replace Azalea will be announced soon.

Furthermore, she said in her twitter message that as an adult I would never use such disgraceful remarks. While clarifying the matter she said that she understood that her words played an important role in the fight regarding the issues.

However, she cannot participate in the event as it might further distract her from the true purpose of the event, Azalea added. She held best wishes for her fans and the people participating in the event.

When asked about the new schedule of the event the board execs said that they were working on new entertainment. They hope to announce shortly the details of the event.

Last week, Iggy cancelled her “The Great Escape Tour,” which was scheduled to begin in September. She insisted that she needed a mental break. Critics believe Iggy needs to make smart choices or else she might jeopardize her career to a great extent.

Fans showed massive support towards Azalea and urged her to be strong and fearless. Some people tweeted that 2015 is not going to be a good year for her so she needs to pull herself together. A fan while bucking her up said that she feels sorry for Iggy and the fact that she had to make this difficult decision.

According to her the recent act of the LGBT community was ridiculous and hypocritical. A beloved fan denied the homophobic tweets from Iggy and called them fake. He also stated that she cannot make such statements. Her account might have been hacked.
